It’s funny how much animals affect our lives. Most of us do not have a day that goes by where we do not see animals of some kind. My daughter’s school (well, one of her schools) even has a therapy dog living in house!! From the sky outside.to our homes, our lives are inundated with critters.
Einstein came into our lives more than seven years ago when he was just one year old (in human years). He had pneumonia as a pup and getting him healthy was more than his owners could deal with for whatever reason. He was given up to an in home shelter specializing on Shitzus, Yorkies and Shorkies. Our little Shorkie was nursed back to health and put up for adoption. I saw his photo online and just kept coming back to it again and again. We had to have him.
Einstein took a journey from two states away to come and live with us and we all fell in love with him immediately. It was my daughter though that became his best friend. At the time she was almost 7, this was her first pet and she treated him like a baby. She would wrap him in a blanky and read him stories. Einstein loved every minute of it. When she broke her ankle a few months later her dog rarely left her side. Laying with her constantly, taking care of her the way she took care of him.
Now, years later, it’s not much different. He sleeps on a toddler couch in her room, tucked in with a small tortilla blanket like a tiny furry burrito. He is obsessed with his toy flamingo and afraid of his shawdow! They are both older and moodier but their adoration of each other remains the same. When she stays the night away he paces the house like a caged jungle cat. When we go away and he stays with friends or at the kennel she worries about him and has to check on him. Two peas in a pod.
Where would we be without our furry friends? Tell me about yours!!!
